Unlock Your Inner Strength: Discover Your Enneagram Wine Personality

Unlock Your Inner Strength: Discover Your Enneagram Wine Personality

Not all wines are the same, and I am not just talking about white or red, full-bodied, or light-bodied, no! Each grape has its own set of traits, and those traits along with the terroir and winemaking process will produce a wine with a set of particular characteristics.

Grapes are produced to showcase a wide range of colors, textures, aromas, and flavors, from light and refreshing to bold and elegant. Like people, wines have different characteristics, different “personalities”.

According to the Enneagram (a model of the human psyche), most people fall under one of nine personality types: The Perfectionist, Helper, Achiever, Individualist, Investigator, Loyalist, Enthusiast, Challenger, and Peacemaker.

We decided to dive into each personality type to find the grape variety that best matches its characteristics. Read below to learn more about each personality type and the wine that matches it!

What Wine Matches Your Enneagram Type?

TYPE 1 – THE PERFECTIONIST

Type ones are hard-working, serious, straightforward, and well organized. The rational, idealistic type.

Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted grape variety in the world, but that doesn’t mean that all Cabernet Sauvignon wines are good. Only when the wine is produced following high standards and from the right terroir will it produce a bold, serious, elegant, and refined wine. Like number ones, Cabernet Sauvignon wines can be exceptional and showcase the outcome of striving for perfection.

TYPE 2 – THE HELPER

Type twos are friendly, empathetic, warm-hearted, and caring. Twos genuinely connect with everyone!

Wine: Gamay

Gamay is a light-bodied, refreshing red grape varietal from France that produces lively wines with bright red fruit aromas.  Gamay “friendly” characteristics are often misinterpreted. Yes, it produces easy drinking everyday wines but also produces wines with great depth and aging potential. Like type twos, these are wines that connect with everyone at all levels!

TYPE 3 – THE ACHIEVER

Type threes are goal-oriented, driven, competitive, and adaptive. They distinguish themselves through their achievements.

Wine: Riesling

Riesling is an exceptional grape variety that produces some of the finest white wines in the world. It is one of the hardiest grapes too. With a high level of resistance to frost, this is a variety that prospers in some of the coolest climates, producing highly aromatic and elegant wines. Like type threes, these are wines that adapt, excel, and thrive against all odds!

TYPE 4 – THE INDIVIDUALIST

Type fours are sensitive, expressive, dramatic, and creative. They are motivated by their desire to express their individuality and to be unique.

Wine: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is a thin-skinned, delicate, and complex grape. One of the hardest and most arduous grapes to grow, however, when grown in the right conditions, it produces some of the most sought wines in the world. Like type fours, the best Pinot Noir wines are those that are able to fully express the uniqueness of their terroir and their individuality.

TYPE 5 – THE INVESTIGATOR

Type fives are independent, cerebral, innovative, and enjoy isolation. They can be easily drained by the outside world.

Wine: Malbec

A French variety that made its way to Argentina, Malbec is a thick-skinned grape that needs a large amount of sun and heat in order to mature, but it produces outstanding wines in some of the most isolated regions of the world. Like type fives, Malbec finds itself at home in secluded regions where it is allowed to mature at its own pace and in its own time.

TYPE 6 – THE LOYALIST

Sixes are committed, responsible, trustworthy, and security-oriented.  They prefer not to take risks and are always thinking ahead, always prepared.

Wine: Tempranillo

Tempranillo is a Spanish grape known for producing elegant wines with great depth. The beauty of Tempranillo relies on its terroir and traditional winemaking practices (they are traditionally aged in oak for an extended period of time). Like type sixes, the finest Tempranillo wines are those that are vinified with a process that has been tried and tested for many generations. No risks are taken and no part of the method is deviated.

TYPE 7 – THE ENTHUSIAST

Sevens are optimistic, spontaneous, adventurous, and somewhat scattered. They want to squeeze every possible bit of enjoyment out of life!

Wine: Champagne

Whether it be Champagne or any other Sparkling wine, the beauty here is in the bubbles. For centuries, those bubbles have been synonymous with joy, excitement, and celebration! Like type sevens, Champagne bursts with life, what in French is called, joie de vivre.

TYPE 8 – THE CHALLENGER

Powerful, dominating, self-confident, sharp, and intimidating, type eights enjoy taking on challenges because they know they have the willpower and capacity to do so. They walk boldly through life.

Wine: Syrah

Syrah produces some of the darkest-colored and fuller-bodied wines in the world. Like type eights, this is a powerful grape that will showcase its dominance in a blend and its structured confidence on its own.

TYPE 9 – THE PEACEMAKER

Nines are easygoing, agreeable, and calm. They strive to maintain their inner peace and that of others by avoiding conflict and acting as mediators when needed. Nines adapt and help others adapt in order to maintain a harmonious environment.

Wine: Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the most planted white grape varietal, producing a wide range of styles of wine from different corners of the world. Whether it’s a dry wine or a sweet sparkling wine, there is a Chardonnay for everyone! Like number nines, Chardonnay can be easygoing and adapt to your preferred style but also to that of your neighbors! It just wants everyone to enjoy and get along!
